Now officially changed its name to ShopeeFood

Now renamed to ShopeeFood.

On the morning of August 9, Shopee sent a notice to all Asian users. The announcement said that the food delivery app Now has officially changed its name to ShopeeFood. Accordingly, the brand name change will be officially applied from August 18, 2021. Now’s existing services will continue to function as before and will be renamed. NowFood service will be renamed to ShopeeFood, NowShip service will be renamed to ShopeeExpress Instant. Shopee said the rebranding does not affect benefits, account information, e-wallet balance. Shopee’s loyal customers can only apply shopping programs at Shopee. These programs have not been applied to ShopeeFood orders. Now was originally Foody.

Piaget opens a virtual store for Vietnam and neighbouring Asian markets

Piaget has absorbed the spirit of technology and developed a variety of customer-oriented experience channels. Piaget has partnered with e-commerce channels. Piaget now takes it a step further: its own virtual store. Stores can be accessed remotely via personal devices, with a convenient, authentic experience for customers. This virtual store, also recently launched in Vietnam. The COVID-19 epidemic is causing shops and commercial centers to close in major cities.

Traveloka wants to raise 400 million USD

Raising capital is part of Traveloka’s IPO plan. The startup has the goal of listing in the US. Startup will implement SPAC with Bridgetown Holdings. The deal will be backed by Hong Kong billionaire Richard Li and investor Peter Thiel. Fundraising will be done through PIPE. Traveloka’s estimated value will be 5 billion USD after the merger. In October, Bridgetown raised about $595 million in its initial US IPO. Traveloka was named by Fast Company as the best place to work for innovators in the world. The Department of Tourism of Ho Chi Minh City wants to help people find hotels and transport in isolation. The Department and Traveloka Vietnam have implemented an online booking system for these two services on the website and Traveloka app from August 1, 2021.

Huawei supports Pacific – Asian startups

A startup competition in Thailand is a part of Huawei’s Spark program.

The Spark Huawei Cloud Founders Conference opened simultaneously in Singapore and Hong Kong. At the event, Huawei announced a plan to invest 100 million USD to support the startup community. Huawei targets the Spark accelerator program. This program will build a sustainable startup ecosystem in the Asia-Pacific region (APAC) in 3 years. Huawei has been helping Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Thailand to build Asian startup hubs. Huawei said it will also focus its efforts on developing four additional Asian startup hubs. These four markets include Indonesia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and Vietnam. The overall goal is to recruit 1,000 Asian startups to Spark. Huawei will grow 100 of those into Asian scale-up startups.

Square acquires Afterpay

Square is a payments company co-founded by the founder of Twitter. This company is planning to buy Afterpay. Afterpay is an Australian fintech company. The plan helps to expand operations in the booming “buy now pay later” market. On August 2, 2021, Jack Dorsey’s company officially announced this $29 billion M&A deal. The deal was paid for entirely in shares. The $29 billion price tag is nearly 30% higher than Afterpay’s latest closing price.
