Virtuos completed its acquisition of Glass Egg studio

On May 19, 2022, the world’s leading game development company Virtuos announced it had acquired Glass Egg Digital Media. In addition to Glass Egg, Virtuos is also the parent company of Ho Chi Minh City-based studio Sparx. As a result, Virtuos will become the employer of nearly 1,000 game production professionals in Vietnam. The company will also open a new studio in June 2022. Virtuos will scale to 1,500 local employees, becoming the largest game development company in Vietnam.

 

About Glass Egg Digital Media

Glass Egg is a 400-employee, 2D, 3D graphics production studio in Ho Chi Minh City co-founded by CEO Phil Tran, and CFO Steve Reid in 1999. This studio provides 2D graphics production services, 3D, and concept design. Glass Egg is widely recognised in the industry for its ability to produce 3D vehicle and car models. This studio has contributed to many notable AAA game projects such as: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Marvel Spider-Man, Jurassic World Evolution, Need for Speed Heat, Demon Souls and Forza: Horizon 4.

After the merger, Glass Egg will change its name to “Glass Egg – a Virtuos Studio”. This studio will continue to operate independently with the leadership positions of Phil Tran and Steve Reid. The acquisition will leverage Virtuos’ game development and graphics production services, leveraging Vietnam’s position as Southeast Asia’s game development hub.
