The storm of political conflict between Russia and Ukraine has caused corporations to “quit their shirts” because most of them have links to the US government and sanctions of European countries.

Experts in Russia say it won’t be easy for them to leave. In addition to the fines in the lawsuit, the Russian government is asking them to hand over their assets.

According to information from Roskomnadzor, the fines for the seven companies are expected from 6 million rubles ($91,000) to 18 million rubles ($273,000).

It is not the first time that large Western corporations have been involved in litigation in Russia, in the past, Google has also encountered many cases with Russia when it repeatedly refused to remove banned content on the platform. After that, Russia filed a lawsuit against Google with an economic fine of up to 110 million USD.

According to the database of the Russian Federal Police Service, the relevant agencies started proceedings against Google on April 29, as a result of the ruling of the Tagansky Moscow Court. In December 2021, Russia also imposed a penalty of at least 5% of Google’s annual revenue for fiscal year 2020.

Besides Google, Roskomnadzor also announced that the other six companies also had to pay from 1 million rubles ($15,000) to 6 million rubles ($91,000) for violations of personal information laws.
